Space Invaders Hits DSi Ware

Space Invaders Extreme is the latest DS title to be shrunk down for DSi Ware. The Japanese version of the download service took delivery today of Space Invaders Extreme Z, a 500 DSi Point title that attempts to capture the spirt of its retail brothers.

Taito refers to Space Invaders Extreme Z as a port of Space Invaders Extreme 2, released earlier this year. Both titles share the same rhythm-influenced gameplay that has won critical acclaim worldwide.

Of course, there's more to this than just a port. Actually, make that less. The DSi Ware version features just time attack and score attack modes. The concept of "stages" is gone, with players having access to just three courses featuring different enemy patterns. Joining the stages, the game does away with extra lives; you have access to only your three starting lives.

Taito refers to Extreme Z as its first DSi Ware release, suggesting that more could be on the way. Let's hope its plans include territories outside of Japan as well.
