L4D Crash Course Out Today

Left 4 Dead's expansion campaign is out, listed at the wrong price.

Zombie killing is an honored pastime of the human race, and today Valve's release of the second piece of DLC for the zombie-cleansing first-person shooter Left 4 Dead contributes to the worldwide love affair with undead-deading. Crash Course, the title of the new DLC, is available on the PC and Xbox 360, and while free on PC, console gamers will have to part with 560 Microsoft points ($7).

Early adopters will want to be careful though, as Major Nelson's Twitter warns that the wrong price has been listed on Xbox Live (800 Microsoft Points). The problem is apparently being worked out. Mind the Microsoft Points!

For those unfamiliar with Crash Course, it offers a completely new cooperative campaign, Survival maps, new dialogue from the original cast, and a streamlined Versus mode that is tweaked to last about 30 minutes. Recharge timers on the infected and item spawn behavior modifications have also been added to the Versus mode for a more balanced experience.

Crash Course fills in the story gap between the No Mercy and Death Toll campaigns from the original game. To celebrate the release of Crash Course, Left 4 Dead will be 50% off on Steam through October 1st.

Tyler says: With a more "streamlined" Versus mode, maybe more of my friends will want to try that game mode instead of our usual Survival or Campaign outings. Most people I know found Versus to be too long, so it's good to hear Valve is actively truncating the mode. I'm also excited to hear/see the implications of Valve attempting to bring a more coherent story out. We know L4D2 is also pushing the envelope for the series' storytelling, but could this DLC serve as a preview of what to expect with the sequel?

Enough pondering. Time to initiate my personal zombie death panel.
