Dissidia Final Fantasy: Terra

A child of both the human and esper worlds.

As the Final Fantasy franchise has continued over the years, fans have grown increasingly anxious for a game in which they could watch famous characters from the 12 proper titles fight side by side (outside of the obscure gems like Ehrgeiz). Square Enix has answered those desperate pleas in the form of Dissidia Final Fantasy, a PSP exclusive fighting game that gathers heroes and villains from across the Final Fantasy landscape and puts them in a sweeping clash of light and darkness. The game is scheduled for launch this coming August and we PSP owners couldn't be more excited. Dissidia already looks stunning and the amount of polish Square Enix is putting into this fan service affair is quite remarkable.

In celebration of the game's upcoming launch, we've put together some brief features on the heroes of the game that we'll be delivering to you on a weekly basis. If you're more interested in the darker side of the coin, say hello to our friends at GameSpy for a look at the game's villains.

So now let's meet our heroes. Today, we're looking at Terra.

Terra Branford

Origin: Final Fantasy VI

Optimal Fighting Distance: Long-Range

Background: Terra is a young woman born of a human mother and esper father. Imprisoned by the Gestahlian Empire and used as a mindless weapon of powerful magic, Terra begins her journey in Final Fantasy VI as a quiet puppet. Thankfully, an incident on a routine mission to the icy town of Narshe caused the Slave Crown atop her head to break, freeing her from the empire's control.

Being a half-esper, Terra is incredibly gifted in the magical arts, though her soft nature hides her strong will. In Dissidia, Terra takes uses several long-range, magic-based attacks to keep her opponents at bay, though she can cross swords with an enemy if the need arises.

It's safe to say that Terra is one of the most recognizable and well-loved characters to join the army of Cosmos.
