EA-Land Shuts Down

The game formerly known as The Sims Online is closing down.

EA-Land, formerly known as The Sims Online, is shutting down, bringing a close to one of the few stumbles in EA's juggernaut Sims franchise. The Sims Online launched in 2002 to much anticipation but flopped almost immediately. EA relaunched it last year as a free online game known as EA-Land. While free, it also featured an optional $9.99 monthly subscription.

EA will end subscription fees immediately and will compensate subscribers with either $15 off at the EA Store or a three-month Club Pogo subscription. Pogo is EA's causal games site, featuring card games, puzzle games, word games, and more.

The company announced the move in an official post to the EA-Land Blog. "EA-Land / TSO has attracted a very special group of players (of which you are one) and we certainly appreciate your participation in the EA-Land community," the message read. "The lifetime of the game has drawn to an end, and now we will be focusing on new ideas and other innovative concepts in the games arena. We'd like to thank everyone who has taken part in this online community as a unique experience in the virtual world."

EA-Land servers officially close August 1. The team and resources will be pulled to other EA endeavors. Players with further questions regarding their account can contact EA Customer Support.
